Many political decisions determine that education for sustainable development should be integrated in school education. A number of initiatives such as Fridays For Future boost the relevance of sustainable development. In order to meet the resulting requirements, various teaching contents on the topic of sustainability are presented in the series ``Fridays For Future and School?''. This article focuses on backgrounds and effects of the nitrogen problem in Germany. Additionally, teaching suggestions are made including specific experiments and discussion guides to help students gaining a deeper insight of the nitrogen problem in the light of sustainability in our society.
