Occupational hand dermatitis in geriatric nurses / Results of a retrospective study and review of occupational exposures [Risikoberuf altenpflege: Ergebnisse einer klinischen studie mit gewerbedermatologischem anamnese-auxilium]

Abstract

Geriatric nursing can be considered as a high risk occupation for occupational skin diseases. Based on a retrospective study with 58 geriatric nurses who consulted the Osnabruck occupational dermatitis clinic, referred by the occupational insurances for assessment and partly also treatment and advice, we describe the occupational risk profile. The standard of vocational training, the spectrum of typical dermatoses, irritants and allergens as well as possible preventive measures are discussed. A checklist addressing the special occupational exposure is attached at the end as an aid to capture individual occupational exposure precisely.
