Zusammenfassung:
A Culture-Sensitive Look at Socialisation Models-Child-Centred versus Family-Oriented Strategies in Two Cultural Milieus Proceeding from modes of behaviour displayed by mothers in play interactions with their babies, the article describes various socialisation strategies, indicating the extent to which these represent adaptations to specific cultural milieus. With reference to comparisons between Western middle-class families and traditional farmers, the author shows how basic human needs for autonomy and relatedness are responded to in different milieus and figure as organisers of different socialisation strategies and developmental pathways.
