Education Without Fear: Going Beyond the Curriculae

Abstract

Based on the authors' personal experiences with fear gained throughout their studies, the present chapter starts with introspections on each of the author's focused fear: Franziska begins with her fear of decision, Lina continues with her experiences of societal influences on fear, Marisa then talks about her fear of changing educational paths, and Sarah introspects on fear and authorities before Jennifer closes with her contemplation on positive aspects of fear. This over lasting feeling of fear within the author's university education could therefore be seen as a meta-level feeling built upon each of our five themes (Bion in War memoirs. Karnac Books, London, 1997). Despite the variety of their experiences with fear in different university contexts, all five of them still went beyond the curriculae. Reflecting upon presented considerations of previous as well as following chapters within this book, the authors also suggest ideas for a revised curriculum towards a new university of the twenty-first century. Hopefully, these ideas will successfully help students to achieve this “going beyond”.
