The authors present a research project that uses ethnographic methods to capture the family as a cultural environment of education. Three core categories gained in the analysis of the collected data are explained (family style, pedagogical ``gestus'', configuration of education) and under application of these categories one particular case is being discussed. It is one of the major findings of the project that the families develop reflexive forms of practice that contribute to the specific educational potentials within the families.
