The mechanism of the photorefractive effect in Cd13P4S22I2 (CPSI) has been investigated with holographic methods. Our experimental results reveal that the photorefractive properties of CPSI do not originate from the electro-optic effect but from a different type of mechanism, probably a light-induced ionic transport process.
