Zusammenfassung:
The article aims at a comparison of representative versions of the `Eckenlied', revealing thereby specific features of the different retextualisations. When focusing on the remark-ably complex verbal exchange between the giant Ecke and Dietrich von Bern immediately prior to their actual fight, the study combines a literary approach (literary hermeneutics) with a linguistic concept (historical conversation analysis). A detailed look at the different dialogue structures as well as aspects of performance thus gives new and intriguing insights into the `Eckenlied' and especially into the characterization of its main protagonists.
