The phylogenetic relationships between malate dehydrogenases from different cell compartments are discussed. The constructed phylogenetic tree shows that cytosolic NAD-MDH and chloroplast NADP-MDH have evolved through gene duplication of the pre-existing nuclear gene. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V. |
