Zusammenfassung:
The paper presents the results of a study on the relationship between frequency and severity of lung lesions on the one hand and carcass quality, measured by means of carcass weight, grade of quality and PSE criteria, on the other hand. Significant differences between the quality of the carcasses of pigs without and of pigs with lung lesions could be demonstrated. These results underline the necessity to influence the causes of animal health failures in such pig herds, which are striking at slaughter due to a high frequency of medium to severe lung lesions.
