dc.description.abstractThe optical extinction of blue KNbO3 in the visible and near infrared was determined by measuring optical transmission and diffuse reflection. Extinction coefficients derived from the first procedure are much larger than those inferred from the second one. It is shown that this behavior is expected if the samples scatter light strongly. This can partly be attributed to Rayleigh scattering as indicated by the wavelength dependence of the scattering contribution to the extinction.
