Zusammenfassung:
In contrast to pedagogy, sociology is not constrained by the condition that observations of educational praxis must be made directly applicable to the educational system. It can, therefore, start out from a radical, distanced perspective of observation to describe this system. This assumption, however, does not hold for sociology of education, so that this contribution will limit itself to the area of sociology, where this distance of observation is most expected. This contribution asks accordingly what significance the topic Bildung and education has for sociological theory and focusses on the approaches of three authors, who have dealt extensively with this topic in sociological theory: Emile DURKHEIM, Talcott PARSONS and Niklas LUHMANN.
