The 2'-deoxy derivative of the naturally occurring preQ(0) nucleoside 4 as well as its pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine analog 5 were synthesized by copper-ion-mediated transformation of 7-iodo substituents of the 7-deazaguanine or 7-deaza-8-azaguanine nucleosides 2 and 3. They were converted into the corresponding 7-carboxy 10 as well as the 7-carbamoyl derivatives 11 and 12.
