The dielectric response of lithium niobate is quantitatively calculated for different temperatures. Using the chemical bond method, both linear (refractive index) and second order nonlinear optical properties are derived from the corresponding crystallographic structure. Our results show that the dielectric response of lithium niobate at 1.064 mum increases remarkably with increasing temperature. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
