Information about the electronic structure of SrTiO3, BaBiO3 and LiNbO3 deduced from the XPS satellites and their relevance to optical functions

The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) satellite spectra of the O 1s levels of SrTiO3, BaBiO3 and LiNbO3 have been recorded. A detailed analysis of the satellite structures has been performed. The satellites are caused by shake processes and plasmon excitations. The different satellite lines can be assigned to distinct electronic transitions and plasmon excitations. The connection between the optical loss function F{-1/epsilon} and th XPS loss structure is examined. It turns out that the optical function can be determined by XPS measurements. A comparison with other methods is given.
