In order to gain a differentiated perspective as regards the possible solution of the validity problem in connection with intercultural research, the author, in the first part, presents research approaches which-in contrast to `'classic'' positions-focus on the validity problem, i.e., ethnopsycho-analysis and intercultural psychology. In the second part of her study, the author presents the central methodological premises of the present debate on intercultural-comparative research. In the third and final part, a pedagogically relevant topic-comparative intercultural family research-is analyzed with reference to recent research developments and to the possibilities of putting into practice the research approaches described.
