dc.description.abstractDriven by immigration, the number of preschoolers who are second-language learners of German has been increasing in the past few years. Hence, measures to improve the language acquisition of refugee minors are currently receiving much attention. However, in the framework of existing concepts in which play and movement are used for language promotion, the language-stimulating and possibly language-promoting interactions between the child and linguist-capable caregiver remain empirically and conceptually understudied. Therefore, a video-based study of these interactions was conducted in the BMBF-funded program ``The Open Gym'' (a physical activity program for 3-6-year-old refugees), comprising three relevant categories: ``establishing contacts,'' ``establishing and maintaining a scope of action,'' and using ``languagepromoting techniques:'' In the present article the authors characterize the specific pattern of a language-promoting play and movement situation by means of two case examples.
