dc.description.abstractSpatial pattern formation in strongly driven ferromagnets has been predicted theoretically but not yet verified by experiment. We present an experimental set-up to excite the ferrimagnetic resonance of magnetic garnet films locally at high power levels. The spin precession is observed optically by means of Faraday rotation. Using special garnet films with very low saturation magnetization, we were able to observe the formation of spatial patterns.
