Given the lack of a common definition or comprehension of social competencies, the measurement of this domain constitutes a substantial challenge. While operational definitions which are restricted to compilations of specific behaviors predominate the literature on this field, behavioural models drawing on theoretical considerations are scarce. This article aims to present a review of existing instruments. In addition to classical questionnaires, several methods based on interactions and especially instruments utilizing new media are also outlined. The multi-media assessment of social competeficies is valued as especially promising, provided that diagnostic standards (e.g., requirements analysis, evaluation) are taken into account.
