The title compound, C14H13NO2, is a commercially available material and can be used as a multidentate ligand. The molecule of the asymmetric unit has an R configuration, while the corresponding S-configured molecule of the racemic mixture is generated by a crystallographic centre of symmetry. Both hydroxy groups (the H atom of the oxime group is equally disordered over two positions) are involved in hydrogen bonding, leading to the formation of chains extending parallel to [001].
