dc.description.abstractX-ray photoelectron spectroscopic investigations of some ternary magnetic semiconductor chalcogenides ACr(2)X(4) (A= Cu, Cd, Hg, Fe, Mn, Zn; X=S, Se) were performed. From the observed splitting of the 3s core levels of the Cr, Fe and Mn ions, the configurations of these ions were determined to be 3d(3), 3d(6) and 3d(5) respectively. The splitting of the Cr- 2p core levels in the investigated crystals was also observed.
